Chiefs tie exhibition opener

The Kelowna Chiefs hosted the Summerland Steam in the first of the four exhibition games on Friday night at the legendary Rutland Arena.

There is never any love lost between these two teams and both came out with bodies flying. Kelowna started the scoring off early with a quick goal scored by Spencer Horning and assisted by Logan Keating.

Keating would not stop there, as he scored the second Kelowna chief goal to put them ahead 2-1. As the chiefs were leading, the 18-year-old finish hockey player Leo Harju (the Finnish Flash) would make the score 3-1 and seem to put the game out of reach to the 341 fans.

Summerland had different plans and stormed back with 2 goals of their own.

Both teams exchanged grade A chances in the final minute, but the door was shut. In exhibition there is no OT played so the game stayed tied at 3.

The Chiefs will host North Okanagan Friday and Saturday at the Rutland Arena in their final tune-up before the start of the regular season.
