Kelowna Chiefs defenceman and captain Patrick Ferrie has signed to play for the Maryville University Saints in the ACHA next season.
The West Kelowna product had four points in 10 regular season games. Ferrie made his KIJHL debut with the Revelstoke Grizzlies in 2018-19, playing two games as an affiliate player. In 21 games over the last two seasons with the Chiefs, Ferrie had four goals and 11 points.
The 6-1, 182-pound defenceman said he’s excited to attend Maryville University in Town and Country, Missouri and play for the Saints.
“It’s a smaller private school with small class sizes, and I know a couple of guys that were on the team last year and they had a lot of good things to say,” said Ferrie, who will continue to study business administration and operates his own window washing business during the summer. “They have good facilities and I talked to the head coach. It seemed like a good place to settle down for a few years.”
This past season Ferrie played a lot of minutes and his confidence grew. He received power-play time and gained confidence with the puck and improved his offence.
“Patrick is a natural puck-moving defenceman with a high compete level and IQ,” said Chiefs GM Jason Tansem. “Patrick has all of the tools to make this jump. We thank Patrick for his trust in us to help develop him as a player and advance to the next level.”
