KELOWNA – The Kelowna Chiefs Junior A Hockey Club is pleased to announce Rylan Ferster as the team’s new Head Coach and General Manager.
Over his 25-year coaching career Ferster has amassed an impressive list of team achievements, culminating in 2015-2016 where he led the West Kelowna Warriors to a Fred Page Cup as BCHL Champions and an RBC Cup as National Champions. Rylan’s playing career was also marked by a national championship win as a member of the 1990 Centennial Cup-winning Vernon Lakers. A proud native of Prince Albert, Sask., Ferster has represented Canada several times at the World Junior A Championships as a General Manager, Head Coach, and Assistant Coach.

“We are extremely excited to have Rylan join the Kelowna Chiefs,” said owner Darren Tymchyshyn. “Rylan’s wealth of experience and ability to lead teams to success make him the perfect fit for our organization. We believe his leadership and dedication will elevate the Chiefs program and help us continue to build on our strong foundation. We look forward to exciting hockey ahead under his guidance.”
“I’m thrilled to be joining the Kelowna Chiefs. I would like to thank Mr. Tymchyshyn for the opportunity,” said Ferster. “When I had the chance to move back to Kelowna and be close to my twin daughters, it really left very little in the way of decisions. I can’t wait to get started!”
Ferster takes over from Dave Whistle, who led the team during the second half of the 2024-25 season. The Chiefs would like to express their sincere gratitude to coach Whistle for his contributions and leadership during his time with the club.
The Chiefs’ 2025-26 season will begin with their main training camp, taking place from August 29-31. Fans can look forward to an exciting home opener on September 19 against the Osoyoos Coyotes. The game will mark the start of a new era for the Chiefs under Ferster’s leadership.
